Stop me if you've heard this before: It's been a strange season for the Pirates so far. They've scored more runs than any other team and enter the All Star Break third in all of baseball in runs per game. Their bullpen, which has been a lone high point of several recent miserable teams, lets this year's team down left and right. They continue to play up and down to their competition, struggling against the Rockies but then later sweeping the first-place Brewers to enter the break.
Based on projections from their 50-47 record at the spiritual halfway point of the season, Paige's bet is just two games away from their projected win total. Both Charlie's and Teddy's guesses seem entirely possible. As for my prediction, well, if they only win 11 the rest of the way, I'll be proven pessimistically perspicacious.
